HAT presents “Hemp & Health Update" featuring Dr. Sarah Daron-Mathis, who holds a PhD Biomedical Science. Dr. Daron Mathis will give in-depth insight about the human body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) and how we interact with cannabinoids.
About Dr. Daron-Mathis
Dr. Sarah Daron-Mathis started her education with 11 years in research at Marshall University first getting a bachelor’s in biology and starting her research career in plant extracts using NASA’s Hydrodynamic Focusing Bioreactor. This interest in research lead her to follow up by receiving her Masters in Science degree in the field of biology and being awarded a NASA West Virginia Space Grant.
She was awarded the International Exchange Graduate Research position at the Council for National Research (CNR) in Rome, Italy in the spring 2009 were she worked with a magnetic field in combination with microgravity to differentiate Osteosarcoma Cancer Stem-like Cells back into healthy bone. She then went on to continue her PhD in Biomedical Sciences focusing on Cancer Biology using Microgravity to proliferate, normally quiescent, Cancer Stem-Like Cells to be available for a more accurate personalized chemotherapeutic assay that she development for Chemogenics LLC. During her time at Marshall University she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Introduction to Biology, Principles of Cell Biology, Immunology, and was the Teachers Assistant in Cancer Biology for 1st year Medical Students.
Once Dr. Sarah Daron-Mathis completed her PhD, her family moved to Middle Tennessee. Her first position was as a professor at Motlow State Community College teaching Introduction to Biology, General Biology (web based instructor) and Anatomy and Physiology. She was then offered a position at Vanderbilt University to do a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Department of Pharmacology. Her work included cytotoxicity testing for new drugs and inhibition of IL4 type 2 receptor on the pro-tumorigenic M2 Macrophages. She has had 4 publications in the field of cancer biology and is continuing her efforts to further the research and education of cannabinoids by funding from the Department of Defense Horizon Award on CBD, and Water-Soluble formulations in Colon Cancer at Middle Tennessee State University. Also, she was the first Senior Cannabinoid Science Liaison and has developed her own company, Cannabinoid Biological Development LLC, for research and consultancy, and is doing Research and Development with BenMar.
